General Presentation
Message from the Minister
Mauritanian handicrafts are a pillar of our cultural and economic heritage. For centuries, artisans have passed down unique skills in leatherwork, metalwork, woodwork, textiles, and pottery. These crafts reflect the creativity and identity of our nation while contributing to the livelihoods of communities and the vitality of local markets.
To safeguard and promote this heritage, the Government, through the Ministry of Vocational Training, Handicrafts, and Trades, has established a Directorate dedicated to policy, regulation, and the preservation of artisanal know-how. Its mission includes supporting artisans, issuing professional accreditation, promoting exports, and documenting traditional skills.
This framework enables a coordinated approach that preserves traditions while supporting local economic development. By aligning vocational training with labor market needs, we aim to modernize the sector, strengthen artisans’ capacities, and foster youth employment.
We express our gratitude to H.E. the President of the Republic, Mr. Mohamed Ould Cheikh El Ghazouani, to our partners, and to all those who contribute to the promotion of Mauritanian handicrafts and their integration into national development.
