At the close of the final week of the “Leather” Program at the UNIPOD incubator, the sessions were marked by a series of activities focused on training, knowledge sharing, and the exploration of new opportunities. The events took place in the presence of representatives from the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP), the Ministry of Vocational Training, Handicrafts and Trades (MFPAM), the National Chamber of Handicrafts and Trades (CNARM), as well as the company MARAZ.
This incubation program aims to:
- develop artisans’ technical and managerial skills,
- strengthen the local value chain,
- facilitate access to national and international markets,
- integrate innovation within the leather sector.
The program represents a strategic step toward the sustainable transformation of the leather sector in Mauritania, by creating new economic opportunities and enhancing authentic Mauritanian artisanal know-how.
During this week, artisans had the opportunity to showcase their products and creations, exchange experiences, strengthen their technical and entrepreneurial skills, and explore new prospects in the field of leather goods.
These activities highlighted the strong potential of Mauritania’s artisanal sector, particularly the leather value chain, as well as the promising opportunities it offers in terms of employment and innovation, while preserving artisanal identity and national cultural heritage.
