The General Directorate of Crafts and Professions, in partnership with the UNDP, has officially launched the training and support program for leather artisans at the department’s UNIPOD.
This program represents a significant step forward in strengthening and modernizing the leather sector in Mauritania. Its objectives are to:
- Enhance the technical skills of artisans,
- Encourage innovation in production processes,
- Facilitate access to new markets for locally made leather goods.
The launch brought together institutional representatives, technical partners, and beneficiary artisans, highlighting the importance of collaboration between public and private actors in developing the sector.
This initiative marks the beginning of structured and long-term support for artisans, who will benefit from knowledge transfer, improved production organization, and stronger assistance in marketing their products.
